July layout with Patty

Happy July, everyone! It's Patty again with a layout for The Crafty Scrapper design team. I know that many of you took some great photos on The Fourth of July and want to scrapbook them. I have just the solution for you! The Crafty Scrapper has a fun patriotic collection by Doodlebug Design called Patriotic Parade. This collection is loaded with beautiful papers, stickers and embellishments, and so much fun to use for a masculine, feminine, family or adult layout.

First, I cut, punched and inked several strips of the gorgeous  patterned papers from this collection and used a little Prima ink over a mask by Crafter's Workshop and let it dry. After that, I spritzed some Maya Mist in areas that would be seen and not hidden by the paper strips and photo. Then, I applied white modeling paste (Liquitex) over a Prima mask and let it dry. Next, I mixed some  Maya Mist into the modeling paste  and applied it between the white zig-zags. It has the look of red and white stripes...only with a zig-zag pattern. After that, I used one of my Stamper's Annonomous stamps to emboss the background paper by Authentique.

The felt flower is by Maya Road and the tiny pearls are by Doodle Bug Designs. The ribbon is by May Arts and is also available at The Crafty Scrapper.

This little garland of stars, sticker and  multi layered pinwheel stickers by Doodle Bug Designs are so much fun and bring texture and dimension to any page or card.

The border punch is by Martha Stewart and adds a nice touch to any page or card. Just a little note here about the photos. I have had this photo of my son and daughter for about 28 years and it had a lot of brown tones in the background, which I didn't think went well with the look of this page, so I scanned it, printed it, then cut away the background. I was surprised at how well it turned out, and will most likely use this technique occasionally in future layouts.

Summer Time Banner with Amy

Hi y'all, it's Amy and today I have a taste of summer to share with you.

Few things in life make me happier than a new paper line from Bo Bunny. Gena down at The Crafty Scrapper has the power to make me smile just by sending me a teaser text that there might be new Bo Bunny afoot in the store. This line, Lemonade Stand, was no exception. The bright colors and the summertime message can't help but make you think of longer days, time with kids, and traveling.
I wanted to do a banner and I wanted the 3D effect I love so much. My solution with this Maya Road skinny banner was to use Maya Road scallops, glued together and paper covered, to connect the banner pieces and raise up the non-scalloped pages. It had the bonus effect of giving me one solid piece cause banners that get all twisted up drive me a little nutty.

Nothing is complete without a pile of flowers. Here the Prima flowers and Bo Bunny Lemonade Stand embellies make a perfect compliment.

I will admit it, I had to turn to YouTube to figure out how to make an actual pinwheel. here I double layered the pinwheel to make it stand out and used it to highlight the "Catching Some Rays" sticker I pulled from the Bo Bunny sticker sheet.

All my favorite things about summer! Swimming, ice cream, and BBQ's with the family. Again, just love how all the bright happy colors came together.

Summer, summer, and more summer! I am usually challenged with banners to have a "centerpiece" with each panel. On this one I went a little crazy and just put together all the parts I liked and let it come together as the center. Here again I worked the flowers and premade brads together and the pink flower is die cut acrylic that has been stamped and painted.

Whatever summer means to you, I hope that this paper line and banner bring a smile to your face. Check out The Crafty Scrapper for all you need to capture your summertime!

Happy scrappin' y'all!

Leaky Shed Studio with Sonia

Hello crafty friends --Sonia Doneghue here for The Crafty Scrapper!  I'm really excited to share this project with all of you as I had an opportunity to fuse my love of paper crafting with my love of urban and not so urban exploration.  You see, when I'm not painting chipboard I enjoy exploring abandoned places and spaces and capturing images to share with others.  My motto is that "I find beauty where most see atrophy."  I hope you are able to see the beauty too.

This lovely chipboard album is by the fine folks at Leaky Shed Studio and can be purchased at The Crafty Scrapper.  Fortunately, my album is shaped like a camera.  I also want to mention that all of the gorgeous paper I used in this album is from the "Accomplished" line of papers by Authentique.  You can find this paper right by the checkout!  A little bit about the cover which is typically my most embellished part of the book...I wanted to create a contrast between something beautiful and something, well, a bit on the mucky side because that's definitely what this book is about.  I chose a soft damask print for the background and then a bold brick print for the accent pieces of the camera.  All of the paper embellishments including the alphabet are by Tim Holtz and the flowers are by Prima.

Lets look at a couple of pages on the inside...

I really liked the way this turned out.  I'm not gonna lie, I was so frustrated with this page that I wanted to put the pictures sides by side, glue the Maya Road light bulb in the middle and call it a day.  But I walked away, got some sleep, and in the morning I churned this out with ease.

The photo on the left flips open so that you can see the entire picture on the right and you can also read some details about these photos.  And just in case you can't see the print, these photos were taken in the ghost town of Medicine Mound, Texas which is located between Amarillo and Dallas.  We found the structural remains of a filling station and some really neat relics including the gas pump.  We continued down the road and drove through a field (remember, not so urban exploration) and found a very old grade school.  You can see that edifice on the cover of the book.  I don't think class will ever be in session again.  Or will it?

I'd like to share just one more page with all of you because I used a really neat technique that you will want to try on your next project.  Hold off on the coffee, you're going to need a steady hand for this.

For this page I took a Maya Road linen heart and laid a stencil over it and then gently applied a thick coat of Wendy Vecchi's Embossing Paste in white.  I promise, once you do this you will want to do it over and over...just imagine the possibilities.  I also stenciled some beautiful black birds on other linen hearts for a different project.  About the photo:  The gorgeous statue on this page was found in an overgrown cemetery in South Texas.  I doubt that old place has many visitors, but I have a hunch that this statue restores hope for the disregarded.

If you would like to see the entire book and read some insight behind the photos, please stop by my blog, Ms. Ruin's Playthings, for all of the details.  You can also see the book on display at The Crafty Scrapper.

Until next time...take flight!

May Blog Challenge- USE LAYERS!

Hi to all my friends in blogland!
It's Anita S here today I have a new layout to share for
The Crafty Scrapper's May Blog Challenge

This month the challenge is to
USE LAYERS
You can interpret that anyway you want and remember,
any project is eligible to enter- it doesn't have to be a layout!

Here is a look at my layout
This is my Sweet Baby Jade at 11 months old! She was so cute back then!
I have used Carta Bella papers and chipboard to build my layers.
I wanted to use this cute polka dot paper to match her swimsuit, but I didn't want a huge piece of it. I cut one strip to show the dots and added it across the page from the photo. I added machine stitching along the edges. The punch used here is from Fiskars and I added some faux stitching with my PITT® Artist Pen from Faber-Castell®.

Here's how I made the fabulous chipboard mat for my photo;
I mapped out where I wanted my photo to go, then I arranged chipboard pieces around the outer edge until I was happy with the way they looked.
Once everything was glued down, I put two thin coats of gesso over the whole thing and spread it out around the area onto the page as well. Let dry completely.
Add you color how ever you want- I used some pink Glitter Glam from Heidi Swapp- I just painted a heavy coat over the whole area; let dry completely.
When everything was dry I splattered some pink paint over the whole layout. I used my Stamper's Big Brush Pen in White to add accents around the outer edge of the chipboards and added some pearls from Queen and Co.
Here is a closer look. The Chipboard title is from Blue Fern Studios and I heat embossed with Raspberry Tart from Sparkle N Sprinkle.
To add another layer at the bottom, I cut my paper and punched the cut edges, folding them back. I added a doiley that I have had for YEARS underneath, some brads, buttons and flowers.
Flowers are Prima, buttons are from Imaginisce.

The hearts on the side were made using a Wendy Vecchi stencil and embossing paste. When it was dry I used two colors of Gelatos® to color them.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
You have until May 31st to link up your project below.
Be sure you are linking directly to your blog post, and NOT your main blog page.

Hoot! Hoot! Hat's off to you card with Tina

Hello, it's Tina here today with another card creation
made with stamps and supplies
from The Crafty Scrapper!

The designer papers I was given were the Bo Bunny Pop Quiz line, which is all school related.  When I saw the set of owl stamps from Maya Road, I decided it was a perfect time to combine the two and create a graduation card.

I made the little grad hat out of some black paper and added a homemade tassel out of some black crochet thread.  The scallop border is a die from My Favorite Things.  That little star pin is the perfect added touch!
I hope you enjoyed my card for the day.  You can find it and all the supplies at The Crafty Scrapper!
Happy Stamping!

Vintage Love with Amy

Hi y'all! Today I have a project to show you that I adore.

One because it has my favorite thing in it - flowers!
Second because it has two of my favorite people in the world in it - my grandparents.

My grandparents more or less raised me. I lived with them and my mom when I was little. During the formative years of my life where I copied my mother and called my grandma "Mom". That stuck for all three of us grandkids and now my kids call her the same. Appropriate enough since she was such a strong influence on me. PawPaw is the only father figure I have ever known. It is a rare treat to get such a great picture of them as is featured here, but Sonia knows her stuff!

I love anything Prima and this vintage frame is no exception. I used Crate Paper's Style Board line to line the inside edge of the frame and the back. From there I just let the layering begin!

I used Primas' Something Blue flower line and inked up the edges to go along with the frame. As with almost all of my projects, Maya Road pins finish off this flower grouping along with Want 2 Scrap pearl bling.

I hope you enjoy the finished product as much as I will for years to come.
Remember, all of this goodness is available down at The Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie.

Happy scrappin'!
Amy

Fun Boy Layout with Patty

Hi everyone!
It's Patty again with a fun boy's layout.

For all this boyish fun,  the Suave collection by Authentique and
the That's My Boy collection by Echo Park were used.

The procedure here involved painting gesso onto the paper. Next, I used a mask and applied modeling paste.  The paper strips were cut into wave shapes, crinkled and inked before adhering them to the page.

Behind the photo you can see part of a Maya Road mini album page which was painted, stamped and inked. It was also popped up.

For this cute chalkboard label, I used Word Software, created a textbox, then filled it in with black and typed in a vintage typewriter font in white.

The buttons were painted white, then sanded. The chipboard shapes were painted. An old prescription bottle and gesso were used to create the circles in the background.

Thanks for taking a peek!
Be sure to swing by my favorite happy scrappy place,
The Crafty Scrapper, in Waxahachie, Texas, where you can
see this layout in person and create a
similar layout for your own precious boy photos!

Design Team Challenge With Tina

Hello, it's Tina here, to bring you my challenge project using
all the wonderful products from The Crafty Scrapper.

My everyday choice of papercrafting is cardmaking, but not today!
My project is a three-dimensional birdhouse that I made from scratch, using chipboard.  Wow.  I am not sure where the idea came from for a birdhouse.  I think it might have been all the half moon shaped chipboard pieces that we were required to use.  Laying them out on top of each other, made me think of a roof, and I went with it!  I got a pattern for the front shape from the internet and enlarged it.  I repeated the size for the back.  The roof line was the width of the scallop half moon shaped pieces we were required to use in the challenge.  I used more of the half moon shaped pieces on the sides, this time cutting them to resemble shingles.  I sponged some gray Distress Ink on them and used an embossing folder to add a wavy pattern.  Each panel was covered with scrapbook paper before adhering together.  I also added a base to make it sturdier.

Our challenge was to use every item in the bag.  There were tickets, a pearl chain, chipboard pieces like hearts, birds, and words, rhinestone shapes like a butterfly and a tree, a paper doily, tiny wooden spools, and buttons, an acrylic square, and ribbon.  All of these items I either added to the base or to the wire that I added to the roofline of the birdhouse.

I used wooden bamboo sticks and the pearl chain to create a fence on two of the sides, and the sign that says "home tweet home" out of tickets.  The base elements were the ones that got adhered with some hot glue, but to cover the glue up, I added Flower Soft at the base of each stick.  I also love the rhinestone tree in the small spool to look like a planter. The wire gave me a great place to add the rest of  the challenge elements, like the doily, the birds, the simply real words, and the ribbon.  All of the chipboard shapes and the paper doily were inked with distress inks for some color. There was one last element and that was that acrylic square.  That one piece was a challenge!  I made it a window on the back of the house.  I added a small window box filled with Flower Soft!  Perfect!
You can see my birdhouse in person when you stop in at the store!
And check out my blog today, for more details and photos.

Happy Stamping!

Design Team Challenge with Shelley

Shelley here, with a Sweet Treat, just in time for Valentine's Day!   This is my entry for the Design Team Challenge!

I've made a few Valentine's Day Magnets, and decorated a jar to put a few treats in!

For the jar, I took a doilly and sprayed it with Shimmering Mist.  After it dried, I covered the inside metal lid, and put the ring around it.  These fabulous cupcakes were made with the "Delightful Cupcakes" Die-Namites Die and some thin metal.  They look good enough to eat!

Here are the magnet-valentines I made!

I started with chipboard pieces.  On the scalloped piece, I used Inka Gold in "Lava Red".  This provided a nice base to start with!  For the top chipboard piece, I used a piece of Cotswald Manor paper.  The "Heart Bouquet" is another awesome die from Die-Namites!  To give the little chipboard bird a little bit of texture, I used the Viva Magic Transparent Pearl Pen.  I glued a piece of magnet on the back of the piece.  So, instead of giving a little Valentine's Day card, I will give my Valentines a little magnet that will have them thinking of me just a little bit longer!

On this magnet, I used the "Delightful Cupcakes" diecut again!  I cut it in two different colors of metal, allowing me to have the cut-out parts in a different color, and then I glued them on!

I hope you enjoyed my project!  Please stop back in regularly to see what wonderful things The Crafty Scrapper has to share!!

~Shelley

Design Team Challenge with Patty

Hi Everyone! It's Patty again with my entry for The Crafty Scrapper Design Team challenge.

This little mini album is a work of heart that I have wanted to create for quite some time, now.

The subject of the little album is the place in the country owned by my grandparents when I was a child. It was officially named "Echo Hills", but we just called it "The Farm". Although many homes and a school have sprouted up on the same land in the last forty years, I remember it as if it was yesterday. Now, I have a treasured little album to pass along to my children, so they will also have a chance to experience this little bit of Heaven on Earth. After all, what better reason for scrapbooking, than to pass our memories along to future generations?

I have always enjoyed interactive scrapbooking and this little envelope seemed perfect to list the variety of crops that Dandad grew in his garden.

These two photos are of my parents holding me, at less than a month old, then at about six months. They were both taken at the farm.
My grandfather was Sheriff of Tarrant County and later, the United States Marshal for The Northern District of Texas. Every year, there was a law enforcement picnic held at the farm and everyone would have a grand time, but I think that I enjoyed them the most!

There was  a lake, where we not only fished, but would throw sticks into the water for the dogs to retrieve during warm months.  There were several ponds at the farm, and I remember my grandmother and me catching fish there. It is one of my fondest memories of her. In the page on the right, is a photo of my horse, Diamond, and me. I was sixteen.

Be sure to stop by my blog to see more photos of this little album. I hope you will leave a comment there. Better yet, stop by The Crafty Scrapper and see it on display.
