Leaky Shed Studio with Anita H

For the next couple of weeks, we will all be highlighting some fabulous chipboard pieces from
The Crafty Scrapper started stocking these amazing products a few months ago, so be sure
to look for them when you stop by!

Hello Crafty Scrappers!!! Anita Houston of the Artful Maven Haven, to show you an awesome shaped piece of chipboard from Leaky Shed Studio. The company was generous to give each of the Design Team Members at The Crafty Scrapper, our choice of pieces, and I chose the Eiffel Tower. I love the sturdiness of it, and would love a much larger one...hint hint!!!
I was stumped for a base for this though, and after rummaging through a new bag of stash from The Crafty Scrapper, I found a package of Ten Seconds Studio's new Emboss-able Leather! Words cannot express how much I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! Leather might be my new go to base! Oh the possibilities!!!

I cut an 8.5x4 inch piece of the leather, and trimmed it up into a jumbo sized #10 tag. I ran it through the Cuttlebug using the A and B plates, and Tim Holtz Sizzex Texture Fades, as it was too thick to go through my Vagabond. It embossed like butter! I love that the Eiffel Tower on the Texture Fade fits the Leaky Shed tower wonderfully.

Part of the leather collection from Ten Seconds Studio is the Cattle-ist Stains to color the leather. I LOVE them too! I used all three colors to stain my leather tag, using a soft moist cloth. Then I used the Glaze over the stain! EASY!

I wanted a little more definition of my embossed images, so I rubbed the pad of Ranger's Jet Black Archival directly over the tag to highlight the images, and then traced in some of the deeper impressions with a Uniball gold gel pen! LOVE!!! I added the Leaky Shed Eiffel Tower, and the tag really came to life! Then a few Prima Flowers (Colored with the Cattle-ist Stain and Gold Paint Dabber), and lots of Maya Road Metal Embellishments and Lace (Colored with the Cattle-ist Stain) finished the tag off.

Upcoming Classes

Hi everyone! Did you have a scrappy weekend
to celebrate National Scrapbook Day??

I hope you got some great projects done.

We have some awesome classes coming up,,
have you signed up yet? Be sure to get in before they are all full!

Spread Your Numbered Wings and Fly Canvas - Anita Houston
Friday   May 9, 2014  5:30- 9:30pm    $45
Using the Techniques: Number/Letter Pictures; Stamping with Paint;  Paint Resist with Dylusions
It's always interesting to take numbers or letters and make pictures out of them, but instead of doodling them out on a memo pad while talking on the phone, you can create a piece of Art to cherish for years to come using those same doodles. In this class, you will create a whimsical and fun piece of Art that has so much character. You will use paint and ink sprays on a 9x12 inch wood panel canvas, which adds to the interest as you can see the grain of the wood, giving the piece a textural quality like nothing else. Students Will Need: Scissors *Note: You will be using Dylusions Ink Sprays, so you might want to wear an apron.

Industrial Chic ATC Storage Box - Anita Houston
Saturday   May 10, 2014   10am- 2pm   $50  (Bring your lunch)

Using the Techniques: Cracking, Altered Metal, Metal Foliage.
It's so nice to have decor around the house that you've actually made and that is functional! In this class you will make an Artist Trading Block, which is all the craze, that is beautiful and useful to store candy, trinkets, whatever. You will get your hands dirty making an elegant piece to cherish and display, as well as stash a few goodies.  What You Need To Bring: You will not need anything, but it you choose you may bring an apron, scissors, liquid adhesive of your choice.

Botanical Beauty - Gena Glover
Saturday   May 10   10:30- 1:30   $39

Come and join me to create this beautiful keepsake box using the Graphic 45 Botanical Tea paper collection. We will also use the new Wendy Vecchi crackle paste to create beautiful texture on our boxes. This would make a great Mother's Day gift!
Please bring to class: basic class kit, brown ink to distress edges, craft mat

Vintage Photo Book  - Anita Scroggins
Saturday   May 10, 2014   2:30 - 5:30pm  $42
Come join me in making this fabulous vintage inspired photo album. We will use mixed media techniques alter the book cover- painting, spraying, adding texture- lots of techniques to get this wonderful effect. We will be using Prima's new line of paper and embellishments- they are a beautiful vintage floral. A Maya Road chipboard album is our base and we are adding lots of Maya Road goodies to the book as well.  This little photo book would be a wonderful gift for Mother's Day, a Bride to be, or a sweet little girl in your life- or just keep it for yourself to shoe off your favorite photos!
You will need: Craft Mat, Heat Gun, Crop-a-Dile, Paper Piercer, Border punch, corner rounder,  paper cutter, paper and craft scissors, wet glue for paper (Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive is my favorite) , Beacon 3 -n 1 or something similar for ribbon,  dry adhesive like a tape runner, sander, paper distresser, pencil, and a black journal pen.

Class Fun with Anita Houston the Artful Maven

Hello Crafty Scrappers! Anita Houston, the Artful Maven, back with you again this month. And, quite literally I really was at The Crafty Scrapper last weekend for two classes. We had the best time in both, and here are some photos of our fun time!
Before the madness!
The ladies in the Trinity Resist Tag class all made gorgeous tags. They were so quiet and really got into the techniques.

The Altered Paintbrush attendees were a lively group, and really got into blinging up their queens. Each person's paintbrush was so unique and beautiful!

Thank you so much ladies for being such fun and great students! I enjoyed myself immensely and I hope you did too. Kits are still available if you could not attend.
I can't wait to come back next month for the Make N Take Madness! If you haven't already signed up for the fun filled day, do so soon! It looks like a blast!

Go, See, Do- Mini Travel Album with Anita H

Hello Crafty Scrappers! Anita Houston from the Artful Maven Haven to bring you a little grungy inspiration today.
Not long ago, The Crafty Scrapper sent me some fabulous paper from Kaiser Craft's Now Boarding Collection, and a 5x4 Chipboard Binder Album from Maya Road. With Spring and Summer vacation travel plans upon us, I thought this would be a good project to house those special photos and treasures from a trip.

This album is composed with a surprising technique for fabric and paper! Look for dates that I am teaching this at the store if you are interested. Enjoy the warmer weather and I hope you get to make some travel plans soon!

Anita Houston's Fabulous Classes!!

Hello there Crafty Scrapper lovers! Anita Houston, of the Artful Maven Haven here to share the details from my classes last Saturday.
My first class was a Valentine Class where we made two Valentine Tags.

It was so clean and quiet during set up, so I snapped a few pictures. You don't have to bring anything to any of my classes. I try to provide everything, so all you have to do is sit, relax, and create!

Then 23 crafty people came in and started creating. Seven ladies were even new to the store and new to classes....I LOVE that! It makes me feel so honored!

It always makes me happy when people exchange phone numbers and become new friends! That is what this is all about!

Nicole finished both of her tags, and sent me photos of them. They came out exceptional!!!

The Sunday afternoon class was much smaller, but we had an AMAZING time! A few of the ladies were a little scared of using Alcohol Ink, which I think kept some people away, but 30 minutes into class, they were pros. They even taught me a thing or two. I seriously think that this Alcohol Inked Wood Panel Class was my most favorite class to ever teach!

Thank you Carolyn for having me, housing me, and feeding me! Thank you ladies for being such wonderful students! Some of you travel so far to come, and that means more to me than you can imagine! I cherish all of you!
By the way, if you don't know this, Carolyn gives you a discount on all the items you buy the day you attend a class! SWEET! And, if she doesn't have something you want, she can order it for you, so please always keep that in mind.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!
 Get inky soon!

Anita Houston Demos New Wendi Vecchi Embossing Paste and Stamps!

Hello there Crafty Scrapper lovers! Anita Houston, of the Artful Maven Haven (There are two Anita's on the Design Team by the way.) here to give you a little inside scoop on the goings on at the store from last weekend.
I made the five hour trek from Midland, through the ice and snow to spend the weekend doing demos and teaching classes. Bad weather couldn't hold me back from one of my favorite places to be, The Crafty Scrapper, but I was sure glad to get there and off the roads.
Carolyn, the fearless owner,  hosted a Stamp Catalog Party on Friday night, and so I was put to work demoing Wendy Vecchi's Embossing Paste and Stamps, as well as Tim Holtz's and Dina Wakley's new stamps. I LOVE to demo! It's probably my favorite thing to do, crafty speaking. I love to see people's eyes open up to new possibilities and inspirations. I love to answer questions, especially when onlookers get excited about my answers. If I don't know an answer then I will start creating until I figure it out. I love getting my hands dirty experimenting with new product! It's exhilarating!
Carolyn has an Art Bar to use for demo work. It's the perfect height for me, and there is lots of play space.
Here is some of what I made. I gave some things away too. I just want you to know that Wendy's new Crackled Texture Paste is the absolute BOMB!!! It totally transforms any background into a work of art. I used it on Art Parts, Sticky Back Canvas, Watercolor Paper, ATC's, Manila Paper Tags, and metal embellishments. It works on just about everything, with a coat of Embossing Paste underneath or even by itself!
